Mexico City: Police Install Fences Around Palace Ahead of Protests

Police officers from the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC-CdMx) have cordoned off the National Palace with metal fences to protect it ahead of Friday's protests by the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE), as well as the one announced by the 'Generation Z' movement for Saturday. The giant, welded-together metal fences surround the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Likewise, others were placed in an area of the Constitution Square. Young people from 'Somos México' 'remodeled' the wall of shame that President Claudia Sheinbaum had installed in the Zócalo, Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo said on his X account. The metal structures were also installed on streets such as Moneda, Corregidora, 20 de Noviembre, and Pino Suárez. While most access points to the Zócalo were restricted by physical barriers, complicating both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, according to Excélsior. During the morning press conference this Thursday, November 13th, at the National Palace, Miguel Elorza Vásquez stated that, according to an analysis of social networks by Infodemia, it was 'uncovered' that the controversial Generation Z March was paid for by 'the international right.' He explained that this campaign aims to attack the government of the Fourth Transformation. He added that over 90 million pesos were allocated to it in October and November alone. He also said that many of the accounts that have promoted this Saturday's march come from abroad.
